YDC has a long history (since 1958) of meeting the mental health needs of children and families who overwhelmingly reside in Newark and struggle with poverty and associated challenges. YDC’s mission is to provide accessible, high quality, evidence-based, and culturally competent mental health services to children and families in whatever form the family takes. YDC provides mental health services at our community mental health clinic which is Medicaid-licensed to families otherwise unable to access these services. Prominent themes in our work include trauma, domestic violence, emotional regulation, psychoeducation, depression, anger management, and anxiety. In addition to our clinic-based work, we provide mental health services in the community in partnership with schools and other organizations. Most of this work is in schools where we provide individual and group mental health services, as well as teacher consultation and support.
