North Ward Center

Building a better community by educating, advocating, and empowering families.

Family Success Center
The Family Success Center’s overarching goal is to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect in the home. Through proactive services, we enhance parental capacity for growth and development; increase the stability, health, and well-being of children and families; and empower community residents to acquire the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to provide optimal outcomes for families.

The NWC Family Success Center provides family health, parent education, family activities, employment-related services, life skills, housing-related services, advocacy, referrals, special assistance, citizenship classes, and ESL classes. Most importantly, the FSC creates opportunities for families to spend quality time with one another.

North Ward Center Child Development Center
Our Child Development Center is the cornerstone of The North Ward Center. Established in 1975, The NWC Child Development Center has provided more than 5,000 preschoolers with an excellent education. In partnership with the Newark Public Schools, the NWC Child Development Center is providing Newark children with their first educational experience in state-of-the-art surroundings. The Child Development Center is one of the largest Abbott preschools in New Jersey.

Forest Hill Child Development Center
A private preschool operated by The North Ward Center, the Forest Hill Child Development Center offers an exemplary, private early-childhood program for children two through five years of age.

Our pre-kindergarten program is designed to provide a learning environment that will help children develop intellectually, socially, physically, and emotionally in a manner that is appropriate to their age and developmental stage.

Casa Israel Adult Medical Day Center
Casa Israel Adult Medical Day Center, one of the first licensed adult medical day programs in the state, was established in 2002. The goal of Casa Israel is to provide the highest quality care, including primary and preventative healthcare, as well as therapeutic, recreational, and social services to our clients. The purpose of our program is to allow senior citizens to age in place.

Individuals who attend Casa Israel receive door-to-door transportation, a nutritious breakfast, and lunch; attentive nursing care; a variety of recreational activities and trips; and the advocacy and support of licensed social workers.

Youth Leadership Development Program
Our Youth Leadership Development Program has provided recreational and leadership activities for Newark youth for more than forty years. The North Ward Center runs the largest youth leadership development program in the City of Newark. The year-round program includes instructional clinics and teaches hands-on athletic development, teamwork skills, character development, and sportsmanship through various organized sports.
