David’s Shoes is a New Jersey nonprofit organization founded by Elaine Lane in memory of her son, David Lane II, who lost his life to gun violence at the age of 18. The organization is dedicated to reducing youth gun violence by empowering young people through education, mentoring, leadership development, and community engagement. David’s Shoes serves youth and families living in communities impacted by violence, encouraging young people to value life, make positive choices, and pursue productive futures.
Through its Book Scholarship Program, David’s Shoes provides four-year book scholarships and mentoring support to young men entering college, university, trade, and technical schools. The organization also presents Honor Life anti-violence workshops and presentations in schools and community programs, offering students opportunities to reflect on the impact of violence while promoting conflict resolution, self-respect, and personal responsibility. Additional initiatives include art contests, youth leadership activities, and the Ambassadors of Peace Club, which encourages students to become advocates for nonviolence within their schools and communities.
David’s Shoes believes that education, mentorship, and community support can transform lives and help young people build a future filled with hope, achievement, and purpose.
