The mission of The Apostles’ House (TAH) is to provide comprehensive social services to homeless and at-risk families and individuals in the Newark area in an environment that encourages and enables self-sufficiency.

Each year, The Apostles’ House provides vital services to increasing numbers of people in need of safe shelter, nutritious meals, healthcare, and other services that help them become self-sufficient and confident members of society.

Food Pantry Program
The Food Pantry Program helps to distribute bags of groceries to families and individuals in need.  In order to provide this much-needed assistance, The Apostles’ House has developed relationships with churches, food purveyors, and other potential food donors.  If you would like additional information about the Food Pantry Program or to find out how you can help arrange food donations, please contact us at (973) 375-9715.  The Food Pantry is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Parent Aide Program
The Parent Aide Program aims to help provide comprehensive services to families who are transitioning from at-risk status to more stable living conditions.  Parent Aides work with families identified by the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) to provide access to needed family services, provide a link to the children’s schools, and teach parenting and other needed skills to enhance family stability.

Clothing Pantry
The Apostles’ House Clothing Pantry program is filled with donated clothing that is new or gently used.  Donated clothing is provided by individuals, corporate retail stores, and other organizations.  Clothing from the pantry is provided to the women and children of The Apostles’ House as needed and is also provided to local community members.  The Clothing Pantry is open on Fridays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Emergency Shelter Program
The Emergency Shelter program helps homeless women with children become self-sufficient.  Clients in the program are provided with the opportunity for decision-making and assuming responsibility for improving their circumstances under the supervision, support, and guidance of shelter staff.  The program houses up to 20 mothers and children, providing supervised residences, three meals a day, planning and case management services, education, and clothing.

Transitional Housing Program
The Transitional Housing program provides affordable housing to families and individuals with unstable living arrangements and works to ensure their transition to permanent housing.  The program provides clients with workshops for life skills development and emotional support services.  The ultimate goal of the program is to help individuals and families become self-sufficient and transition to stable permanent housing that sustains.
