Freedom School @ The Mark
A Free Summer Enrichment Program for K-8 Scholars

Freedom School @ The Mark is a free, six-week summer literacy and leadership program designed to prevent summer learning loss, close achievement gaps, and empower children through a culturally responsive curriculum. Operated by St. Mark's United Methodist Church, our program provides a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment for students in grades K-8.

What We Offer

  • Reading & Literacy Development
Scholars engage with high-quality, multicultural books that promote a love for reading and critical thinking.
  • Social-Emotional Growth
Daily activities, including discussions, role-playing, and team-building exercises, help scholars build confidence, leadership skills, and resilience.
  • Civic Engagement & Leadership
Children are encouraged to develop a sense of agency, preparing them to be change-makers in their communities.
  • Health & Wellness
Nutritious meals and an emphasis on physical activity help support overall well-being.
  • Family & Community Engagement
Parents are encouraged to participate in weekly meetings, and the program fosters strong community connections.

Program Impact

  • 72% of scholars maintain or improve their reading levels over the summer.
  • Scholars read an average of 14 books during the program.
  • Participants develop leadership skills, conflict resolution strategies, and social-emotional competencies.
  • 100% of parents report satisfaction with the program and would recommend it to others.
